Taryn Simon: Kaleidoscope of Entropy (Mono.Editionen #03)

Published on the occasion of the exhibition, Taryn Simon: A Living Man Declared Dead and Other Chapters I-XVIII, MOCA, Los Angeles, October 21, 2012 – January 7, 2013.

Taryn Simon continues to work on the borderline between fine art and documentary photography. Frequently relying on text to avoid any ambiguities in content, she applies methods of advertising photography to journalism, creating carefully staged and manipulated tableaux that gain their force from the friction between their visual perfection and the unsettling subject matter.

This special edition includes a reprint of Mono.Kultur #15, now accompanied by ten selected plates from Simon’s powerful series A Living Man Declared Dead and Other Chapters, presented as individual cards in a beautifully packaged glassine envelope. An eight-page interview addendum offers deeper insight into the series and Simon’s evolving body of work.
